First Widespread Plowable Snowfall of the season expected Sunday.

Updated: Jan 19

It's been almost a year since our last statewide plowable snowfall on February 13, 2024. Which dropped 7-14" across much of the state. This storm won't be nearly as significant, but still enough to cause some issues.

We've had plenty of twists already forecasting this upcoming storm, I'm sure there will be a few more as the storm evolves.

Here's the set up..

An area of low pressure will form along an arctic front on Sunday. As the arctic air starts to filter in Sunday afternoon snow will break out across the state from SW to NE in response to the strengthening area of low pressure. Timing differences are now ironed out as it looks like snow breaks out across Connecticut from SW to NE between 4-5pm. The snow will continue possibly heavy at times peaking between 7-10pm, then tapering off between 2-4am Monday.

Our forecast has remained the same with a general 4-8" snowfall expected across the state, a bit less in SE CT (2-4"), possibly a bit more (8"+) if any persistent heavy snow bands set up. Most towns should fall within the 4-8" range. It will be bitterly cold as the storm ends and the cold will continue through Friday morning, temps might not make it above 20 degrees until Friday in some towns, with some mornings below zero in parts of the state. Any slush will freeze solid, so the cleanup will have to be a good one. Stay safe and warm - Jonathan
